Safe Salad

From the farm to your local grocery, Dole relies on both science and safety to bring the consumer the cleanest and freshest produce possible.

Dole harvests our lettuce under the strict supervision of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) personnel, making sure everything remains clean and safe. Once lettuce enters our facilities, it undergoes a variety of cleaning steps, including the Dole-pioneered the triple-wash process for packaged salad. The three-step process is now an industry standard.

It doesn’t stop there, all of Dole’s salad facilities operate under a system called HACCP, or Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points program. Developed by NASA to prevent astronauts from contracting food-borne illness while in space, the HACCP program is a standard of safety at all Dole plants.

We’re proud of the fact that Dole is the only company that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) partnered with to observe first hand, and understand HACCP in the pre-packaged salad industry.

We don’t stop thinking about product safety and freshness when our lettuce is placed in its bag. Our DOLE packaged salad bags are specially designed to keep the product safe and fresh, incorporating a Best-If-Used-By date on every bag so consumers know they are purchasing the freshest product possible.
